Bed Bugs Are Very Annoying Pests
A pest is any living organism that causes you inconvenience and is uninvited. The most common pests are rats and cockroaches. Having these two visitors in the house alone can cause you stress and make you paranoid. To make things worse there is another pest that seems to be coming back with a vengeance and that is the bed bug. A bed bug is a tiny parasitic insect. There are different species of bed bugs and there is one kind, called the Cimex lectularius which is especially fond of human blood. Incidentally this is the most common type of bed bug.
Most recently there has been an outbreak of these parasites in the city of New York. They cause a lot of chaos and panic in the city. The name bed bug comes from the fact that these pests like to set up home in places where humans sleep. This does not necessarily mean that they are found exclusively in beds. They can set up camp anywhere in your home but are usually found in your bed. These pests were mostly eradicated by the 1940s but have recently been making a come-back. Since 1995 infestations of bed bugs has been on the rise and nobody really knows why.
There are several theories as to why the number of bed bugs is increasing. One reason could be the fact that other insects have been eradicated due to pesticides and so the natural predators of bed bugs have decreased. Another could be that these pests are now resistant to pesticides. Some people are of the opinion that increased foreign travel is responsible for the return of the bed bug. Whatever the reason the fact remains that these are dangerous pests and if you have them in your home you need to do everything you can to get rid of them.
The biggest problem when dealing with these pests is that they are hard to locate. This is where bed bug sniffing dogs come to the rescue. Bed bug dogs are dogs that have been trained to locate bed bug infestations by smelling the pests out. Dogs have a very keen sense of smell and a bug dog can find where there is an infestation of bed bugs within two to three minutes of entering a room. There are a lot of pest control agencies that are now using bed bug dogs to help them find and terminate bed bug infestations.
